About
I have developed the first reported model system in the field which allows for viable expansion, genetic engineering and pharmacologic modulation of patient tumor cells to functionally investigate mechanisms driving metastasis in vivo and to evaluate therapeutics for metastatic disease. I study breast cancer initiation, progression and metastasis using cutting edge single cell analysis technology, novel patient-derived xenograft culture-transplant models of metastasis, organoid/primary culture techniques, RNA sequencing, and other animal models. My research interests include elucidating critical mechanisms for tumor progression and metastasis, with special interest in metabolism and microenvironment, developing functional models of metastasis, and developing novel therapeutic strategies for treating and eradicating metastatic disease. I have trained and mentored >40 undergraduate and graduate student researchers on these collaborative projects and have led this team to the publication of 20 research articles, with 7 first author papers.
