== I am in Kansas, Toto. ==
I am currently a Developer Advocate for Architect.io. I work remotely from the Kansas City Metro Area. I have been developing software for more than two decades.
== How Did I Get Here? ==
I've always liked puzzles. I love little metal trinkets hooked together that I have to figure out how to free from one another. Rubik's Cubes and every permutation. When my dad took a job as a network admin in 1980, we got a computer at the house with an actual modem, but there was no one to call.
== Lost, I Tell You. Lost. ==
I wrote my first program at age 10. It was in Basic for DOS. While I was intrigued, computers were not all that exciting in 1980. The screens were dark and full of green text, and I quickly lost interest and turned my attention to baseball.
== The Prodigal Son ==
After serving in the Army as a truck driver in Iraq during Desert Storm, I came home and started taking night classes at the local technical college and I began to see a pattern. All my past jobs had brought me in contact with computers in some way and it was usually my favorite part of the job. Thus, the programmer in me was reborn.
== Quality Freak ==
I have since found that my mild to moderate OCD leads me to be a quality freak. Not so much that I would enjoy being a tester, but one that enjoys doing things right. Not cutting corners and never sacrificing quality to meet a deadline. I would rather deliver 8 really solid features than 10 so-so features. This led me to look into Test-Driven Development and eventually Behavior-Driven Development. I have since become fascinated with how to deliver at break-neck speed without sacrificing quality.

So now, I speak at user groups and conferences all over the world about how I continue to improve my ability to deliver business value at the speed of business without sacrificing quality.
