About
My name is Mark A. Dougherty, and I was born in Boston and raised in the city of Methuen, Massachusetts (right on the New Hampshire border.) I attended Methuen High School and excelled in sports specifically volleyball, indoor track, and soccer. My dream was to one day become a high school English teacher.
Over the past decade, I have been a consummate and dedicated professional in the logistics industry. I have held positions from freight broker up to the C-suite level of the logistics industry. I have worked for a handful of companies since graduating from Emmanuel College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Management.
However, my proudest professional moment is growing a company from a two- employee outfit in a friend's basement, to hundred-plus-employee, one- hundred-thirty-seven-million- dollar powerhouse in the logistics sector in less than seven years’ time.
I have been trusted to start-up & oversee the operations for an entire geographic region of a half- billion-dollar company. I have been on the ground floor of a fledgling company turned hundred-million- dollar venture. I have been nothing more than a number at a multi-billion-dollar company. I have held government clearance while being trusted to ship some of our country's most-sensitive commodities. You name it, and I have probably done it with transportation.
I was at church earlier this year with my girlfriend and heard the following which I have paraphrased - "Every human is born on the same rung of the ladder. Some of us climb up the ladder and want more & more. While others of us climb down the ladder and serve & serve."
After being in the logistics & transportation industry since 2009, holding various capacities, I have decided to go back to school full-time and pursue a master's degree in social work with an embedded certificate in addiction. I aim to complete this degree end of fall 2026.
Furthermore, I wish to become able to help those who suffer from mental illness and the disease of addiction. My goal in pursuing my MSW and MS in Human Services degrees is to become a LCSW, LMHC, & LCADC in the state of Kentucky. Ideally, I would like to work in a community center advocating and providing therapeutic modalities like REBT, CBT, DBT and ART to those in my community who struggle with addiction, alcoholism, and mental health problems.
Amor fati means, "to love one's fate," in Latin. It is now my life's mantra and driving force.
