Chef Romy Gill MBE is a Celebrity Indian chef, food/travel writer and broadcaster based in the southwest of England. She was the owner and head chef at Romy’s Kitchen. In 2016 she was appointed an MBE in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours list.
Romy was one of the regular and much-loved chefs on BBC1's Ready Steady Cook and has appeared on many other TV programmes, including Celebrity Pointless, Celebrity The Weakest Link, BBC Country Life, BBC's The One Show, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Celebrity MasterChef, The Hairy Bikers’ Comfort Food, Sunday Brunch and BBC Front Row with Mary Beard. She was a regular on Channel 4's Packed Lunch for two years. She appeared on the NBC The Today Show in America. Romy is also a regular on BBC Radio 4's Food Programme and also appeared on BBC Great Lives, Woman's Hour, Cerys Matthew, Today Show and Good Read. Romy did a strand as a presenter for BBC Country file last year and most recently she did a strand for BBC Morning Live.
Romy also regularly contributes to national and international publications including BBC Food, The Telegraph, The Sunday Times and Ocado Magazine, Savuer, The New York Times, Food & Wine, Food 52 CN Traveller and many more. She travels across the UK and abroad to guest chef residencies, food demos and conferences. Romy was invited as a speaker at the Mad Symposium in Copenhagen in 2018. She was also invited to cook at the prestigious James Beard Foundation in New York in 2020.
Romy raises money for different charities through her cooking and running. She has raised over a hundred and fifty thousand pounds for different charities.
She released her debut cookbook in September 2019. Zaika – Vegan Recipes from India. Her second book, On The Himalayan Trail, is out now and available from bookshops and online retailers. Romy is writing her next book with Hardie Grant which is out next year in Autumn 2024. Romy recently won the 2023 ICAP Culinary Award for her book On The Himalayan Trail in New York.
